Eventually, after all you can't rush builders, this will be a light filled room connecting easily to the outdoors. That day has not come yet. In fact we are going backwards first. So my laundry contains a free-standing toilet and a washing machine, its hose disappearing into a hole in the floor. My back door is a sheet of plywood. The cat has learnt to navigate a narrow gap between the leaning sheet and the brick wall. And then there are the worrying figures in white wearing respirators, removing asbestos fibre sheets. More of that to come. My shed is unavailable so no glass beads can be made. The library, full of wood panelling and bookcases full of books, fabric and magazines is now full of temporary wardrobes and our bed. There is neither wall space for a design wall for quilt planning, nor floor space to spread out a sheet with quilt pieces on it. It is very frustrating, having my creation curtailed. And the need for our work just keeps on increasing. The editor of Patchwork Quilt Tsushin in Tokyo is asking for new and used quilts of all sizes to comfort those who have been stricken in the earthquake and tsunami which followed. So, another quilt to cut and sew, using the lovely subtle group of fabrics I bought recently. I'll show you pics when
