This week the glass splashbacks were put in, concluding the work on the kitchen. Except for some ceiling items... but we needn't worry about them, just need to source a nice ceiling grille for the extract fan and get the painter back to patch a few starter holes. Everything in the kitchen seems to be working just fine, very happy to say.
Many happy little Vegemites live here - we have a working kitchen with only minor bits to add or paint, our lovely large studio/bedroom is operating, we have 7 in house, the wheelchair access is working great and I am sooooooooo happy, relieved, now I'm looking forward to other things occupying my life.
After a hectic two weeks of bulding furiously there was a lull until finally yesterday the cabinets started to go in. Just a taste of how it will be...
This morning the back of the house looked like this, unfinished, exposed to the elements.
By the end of the day you can get the gist of what it will look like: a textured fibrous cement cladding to infill around windows between the brickwork panels. Talk about slow progress...
Stage one of the works now more or less complete, we have been able to move in the bed, my clothes and the cats. I am looking forward to having bed, clothes, shoes, bags, scarves and jewellery all in the one room so it makes it easier to get dressed in the morning.
Slowly slowly progress is being made on the house. Painting in progress, shelves going in, stairs to garage. Soon we will be wired for light, power and internet (throughout the house). Better get the heating fixed too. The fan decided to pack it in
Have to report a very successful few weeks in all things. The builder stepped up and the plasterer has been and gone as a result. Painter soon and then it will be time to fit the carpet and get some electrics going. I am looking forward to sleeping in my new room. Already with all the gaps round the windows filled it feels pleasant to be in.
In the studio, a few pieces have emerged. My favourite would have to be this one, which is going to Canada. How circular life is; it was in Canada that I started to make glass beads. More pieces to make and then lots of well-taken photos are required to put in my shop so that you can see the rest of the colourful glassy loot.
After long periods of inactivity it was great to see lots of action last week and this. The rooms are now ready for the plasterer and next week the painter will be in. Yippeeee! Then we can carpet and .. . . move in. Really want to catch the rest of the winter sun streaming in before the red-hot Canberra summer comes round again.
I have always been obsessed with creation and colour. These days I play with glass and fabric as much of the time as I can. The rest is taken up with a little paid architectural work, family and playing with our two cats.
